On Thursday, 26 September the Herald and DA Ward councillor Craig Harrison went to look at a major water leak on Steyr Street in Aureus. Clean water has been going to waste for approximately four weeks.
According to Craig, this is the result of a broken fire hydrant.
“Litres of clean water are being wasted. Some people even come here to do their laundry!” he said.

It seemed that someone tried to fix the problem themselves yesterday (25 September), and today the water is not gushing as strongly as it did before, he added.
In addition to being concerned about clean water being wasted, the road surface has already been damaged. His main concern, however is a fire issue.
“If a fire should break out at a factory in the area, where would the fire engines go to be refilled, and where will the firefighters connect the fire hoses?” he asked.
Craig continued, saying the water was running down the road at such a rate that some community members removed concrete from the sidewalk and blocked off the water so that it could run into a field.
An employee at a business who wants to stay anonymous for fear of the business being attacked, said the water has been running into the factory and is damaging their property.
