New dates for Emerald Speed Fest announced

The Emerald Speed Fest that would have taken place this weekend has been moved to new dates early next year.

The motorsport and motoring lifestyle event that would have taken place at the Emerald Resort and Casino in Vanderbijlpark has been postponed due to security concerns and date clashes with other motoring events. Gauteng posed a travel risk to competitors and spectators which prompted the event organisers to find a more suitable date that did not clash with other motoring events. “A date in early 2020 has proven to be a more desirable option for this exciting new motorsport event. The safety of competitors and spectators is a prime concern and the new date will also ensure that all competitors in local motorsport will get an opportunity to participate in this unique event,” Shaun Swart, Head of Business Development for show organisers, Messe Frankfurt South Africa.

The event will include high-performance race cars, modern road-cars, historic race cars and supercars competing against the clock in a timed challenge on a 1.6km strip at the resort. Prizes for the event come to a total of close to half a million rand in value and are up for grabs by the competitors which will be competing in their respective classes. In addition to the races, spectators can visit the motoring and motorsport related exhibitors or go and view the cars in the classic car displays and pit area. “Messe Frankfurt South Africa is fully committed to delivering a safe and successful event and the new date provides a better platform to achieve this objective. We would also like to thank our event partners and the venue for the overwhelming support of the exciting new motorsport event,” Joshua Low, CEO, Messe Frankfurt South Africa.

The event will take place from 28 February to 1 March 2020 and tickets are available on computicket. For more information, visit www.emeraldspeedfest.com.
