The Royal Randfontein Stofskop, a fun motorcycle event for the whole family was held at the Randfontein Oval Raceway for the first time during the weekend.

The fourth annual 2019 Stofskop event brought fun in the dust on Saturday, 7 September.

The event that took place at the Randfontein Oval Raceway for the first time gave motorbike enthusiasts from all walks of life the opportunity to show what they’re made of in a number of categories, including Inappropriate Road Bike, Moped Mash Chops and Bobbers, Scrambler and Tracker, and Plastic Pigs. It is designed to entice both hobby riders and die-hard enthusiasts.

It was a social ride and we tried to bring bikes that are not normally associated with racing. For example, we had guys out there who were riding their Harley Davidsons on the track,” said Chris Shelvey, Stofskop’s chief organiser.

Lynton Erasmus and Marc Leightley set off at the 2019 Stofskop.

He added that Stofskop will return to Randfontein in 2020, thanks to the great support it received.

“There were kids and adults with their pets. People showed great effort by building motorbikes for the whole year and then coming out to race at Stofskop.”

Chris added that it was interesting for the spectators to see something different.

He said although the name Stofskop sounds very South African, the concept originated from the United States of America, with the purpose of giving ordinary people the opportunity to ride their bikes on the track.

Chris also thanked the sponsors who contributed to the success of the event, among them Motul SA, OC Brewery, Fasthouse and SBK Eyewear.

As the race did not have an actual winner, the names drawn from a hat received the prizes from the sponsors.
