Residents have taken matters into their own hands by dumping refuse bags outside the municipal offices in the Randfontein CBD early on Friday morning (30 August). They are fed up with the poor service delivery.
Although the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) has denied that its employees are striking again, residents have been complaining that service delivery, in this case refuse collection, is basically non-existent.

Matiam van Vuuren, chairperson of the AfriForum Randfontein branch said, “We can no longer live with dirt and refuse littering our streets, this while the taxes we pay are used to pay the salaries of the municipal councillors and officials. If we fail to pay our taxes, we are threatened with prosecution, but if they do not deliver the services we pay for, what can we do?

“Enough is enough, and members of AfriForum, the Randfontein Taxpayers Association and Neighbourhood Watch, as well as some of the disgruntled residents who are unhappy with the lack of refuse removal and service delivery have left their full refuse bags in front of the municipal offices.”
