#ThrowbackThursday – 31 July 1987

The Herald goes back, way back, to 31 July 1987 for this week’s #ThrowbackThursday.

It’s #ThrowbackThursday and the Herald went back in time to 31 July 1987.

In this edition, we reported on National Abour Day and how it was established in South Africa.

The Herald caught up with Filda Oliver, a teacher at Randfontein Primary School. The school celebrated Heritage and Arbour Months all in one day during October last year, with some big names in the police in attendance.

Among them were Major General Fred Kekana, the West Rand Police cluster commander and some of his management as well as various station commanders within the cluster who planted a yellowwood tree at the school.

Filda also spoke to us about the importance of trees and plants in our lives, in view of South Africans celebrating Arbour Week in the first week of September every year.

Mr Thys Ackerman returned after a long absence from Ster Kine Krugersdorp. He says Ster Kine is going to be very  much on the map in the near future. Having just recently been transferred to Krugersdorp, Thys already has plans for a Kiddie Club and Movie Madness Marathon.

 

The Herald held a holiday family competition in 1987.

Roodepoort Munisipale Pluimbalklub het onlangs die Wes Rand ABC Toernooi in die Roodepoortse Stadsaal aangebied. Dit was die derde toernooi wat hierdie klub aangebied het en die enigste toernooi van dié grootte aan die Wes-Rand.
