Big donation to school by South Deep

A total of 500 pieces of school furniture were donated to Kgothalang Secondary by South Deep Goldfields Mine on Wednesday, 24 July.

A total of 250 chairs and 250 tables were donated by South Deep Goldfields to Kgothalang Secondary School on Wednesday, 24 July, to mark Mandela Day.

The project also included replacing more than 50 broken windows at the school.

Brian Boatard of Goldfields, who was speaking during the handover ceremony, said: “This year, Goldfields selected Kgothalang Secondary School as its beneficiary, because we have a good relationship with the school, which allows us the use of its facilities for other community programmes.

Relebohile Mlipha, Nelia Mokone, Bumkani Mkhosana and Shadrack Museti Makholane with some of the new furniture donated to their school by Goldfields.

“This donation is a statement of intent for our mission and vision of becoming a beacon of pride among our communities, stakeholders and shareholders,” Boatard said.

He went on to say the donation will help improve the quality of education, and has urged all the young people to become part of the active process by taking advantage of the resources at their disposal.

“Let us honour Madiba by living his dream of a unified, educated country,” Boatard added.

Shadrack Museti Makholane, the principal of the school, thanked Goldfields for the initiative, saying it was greatly needed by the school.

“We appreciate this goodwill because it is particularly timely. We would also like to thank Goldfields for replacing our broken windows, as our learners were exposed to the cold. We believe that all this will go a long way towards lifting the standard of education in our school,” he said.
