Brandvlei youth making things happen

A non-profit organisation is aiming to tackle illiteracy and unemployment amongst the youth in Brandvlei.

The Brandvlei Youth Zone, a non-profit organisation, is aiming to tackle illiteracy and unemployment among the youth in the area.

Siyabulela Foloti, co-founder of the organisation, said by increasing and improving literacy levels, young people will be able to acquire the education and skills they need to better their lives.

“Brandvlei Youth Zone was established to combat the social ills which are prevalent among young people in the area,” Siyabulela said.

He added that this is an active citizenry method through which change will be brought to strengthen the local economy.

“Education, employment, entrepreneurship and the economy are four focal points to be used. To support our vision, we organise career exhibitions related to the fourth industrial revolution and we also help our young matriculants with applying for university admission by using our local library resources.

“We also coordinate with government institutions to introduce entrepreneurial workshops such the Gauteng Enterprise Propeller, National Youth Development Agency and the Tshepo One Million, which are offered by the Gauteng Provincial Government,” Siyabulela added.
