Local soccer players honoured

More than 50 players were honoured by the Randfontein Local Football Association at an awards ceremony in Greenhills.

Sixty soccer players were honoured by the Randfontein Local Football Association (LFA) at a recent awards ceremony for taking part in the Promotion League at Cottage Lodge in Greenhills on Saturday, 1 June.

Eric Mosete, chairperson of the LFA and coordinator of the ceremony said players from Albany FC which won the first prize, received a trophy and gold medals for their excellent performance in the league.

Albany FC has also been promoted to play in the Regional South African Breweries league.

The second place was taken by Soccer Legends FC who were awarded silver medals, and in the third place was Chillas FC.”

Eric said among those who were awarded during the ceremony were Phori Sethlare who was honoured with a certificate for the longest serving referee and Pule Raikane who received a miniature trophy for the youngest promising referee.

“We would also like to acknowledge our stakeholders such as the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation as well as the Rand West City Local Municipality for their contributions to the development of football on the West Rand and for honouring the best soccer players on that special evening,” Eric added.
