Two murdered in separate incidents on Saturday

Police arrested two men for murders in Ten Acres and Zenzele respectively.

Randfontein Police have arrested two people linked to two separate murders.

Constable Gloria Maswanganye, the West Rand District Police spokesperson said that two suspects, aged 26 and 27 respectively, were arrested on Saturday, 1 June and are expected to appear in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court today (3 June).

“In the first incident in Ten Acres, preliminary information revealed that a 26-year-old suspect and a 38-year-old victim were embroiled in a tussle outside a house in Ten Acres at approximately 2.30am on Saturday morning. The suspect allegedly left for his house but was later called back and notified by neighbours that the victim had died,” she said.

According to Maswanganye, the police was called and swiftly arrested the suspect who also had multiple stab wounds to his upper body.

She said that the second incident also took place early on Saturday morning.

“A 27-year-old man was arrested in Zenzele after police searched his shack and recovered a weapon possibly linked to the death of a spaza shop owner whose body was found next to the shack. The victim had multiple stab wounds,” she said.

The West Rand District Police management has welcomed both arrests, which were effected swiftly within hours of the crimes being committed.

Maswanganye added that members of the public are cautioned to refrain from violence and to exercise restraint at all times to avoid such incidents.

“Anyone who commits serious and violent crimes, such as murder, will face the full might of the law, irrespective of circumstances.”
