Local tuckshop robbed by four armed men

One shot was fired and various goods taken as tuckshop in Bekkersdal is robbed.

The Bekkersdal Police are investigating a case of business robbery after four armed suspects robbed a tuckshop on Monday, 20 May.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, said the incident took place at about 9.30am and the suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of money, a number of cellphones and groceries. One shot was fired.

“It has been alleged the owner was in the shop when the suspects entered his business. One threatened him with the firearm and demanded the money and cellphones, while three others removed groceries from the shelves.

A suspect then fired one shot into the wall before they all fled on foot,” Lefakane said.

Lefakane said the matter was reported to the police and a case of business robbery is under way.
