• 20 April to 26 May: Killer hit musical CHICAGO in Johannesburg!

A nightclub singer, a double murderess, a smooth-talking lawyer and a cell block of sin surrounded by the razzle-dazzle of the world’s sexiest musical returns in 2019! You’ve Got It Comin’ as the story of the award-winning Broadway and West End musical CHICAGO unfolds to show-stopping songs including All that Jazz, Cell Block Tango and Mister Cellophane. The multi-talented all-South African touring cast, band and crew begin rehearsals in Johannesburg ahead of an international tour to New Zealand and China. CHICAGO is on at Montecasino’s Teatro. • 18 May: The first-ever Westonaria parkrun

Make sure you don’t miss the first-ever Westonaria parkrun at 8ame at the Westonaria Sports Complex at 98 Botha Street. The parkrun is free, but it is necessary to register at https://www.parkrun.co.za/register/ before your first run. Don’t forget to take a printed copy of your barcode to the race as you won’t get your time without it. Send an email to westonariaoffice@parkrun.com for more information.

• 18 May: Socca Kidz invitational tournament in Greenhills

Socca Kidz, together with the Barachel Christian Academy will be hosting an invitational tournament (seven-a-side) for soccer players from ages six to 20 on the A Rugby Field at the Greenhills Stadium. More than 20 teams will participate and they are expecting between 160 and 200 kids to attend. The first games will kick off at 8am and the last ones will finish at 4.30pm. The tournament is focused on development and will include Socca Kidz, Aster Private Academy from Carletonville, Grace Christian Academy, BCA, Burning Boys FC from Carletonville and Tsogo Sun Academy from Kagiso. The aim is to create an opportunity for soccer players from schools and clubs to attend development tournaments and to unearth stars of the future. • 18 May: Concert in the Park in Roodepoort

Don’t miss the Concert in the Park with Wonderboom, Rubber Duc and The Mark Beling Band at Eagle Canyon Golf Estate at the soccer park. Pack a picnic basket and join the fun. DJ and music from noon. Free entry for kids under the age of six. Contact 011 795 2799 for more information.

 

• 23 Mei: Kom speel ‘n rondte gholf saam met die Northsider

Die Roodepoort Northsider, die Herald se susterskoerant in samewerking met Ritmia Gemeente, nooi alle belangstellendes om hul welsynsgholfdag by die Ruimsig Gholfklub te ondersteun. Die fokus van hierdie gholfdag is om fondse in te samel vir ‘n aantal welsynsprojekte wat die Northsider en Ritmia Gemeente na aan die hart lê sodat hulpbehoewendes deur die jaar van kos, klere en ander noodsaaklikhede voorsien kan word. Die formaat van die gholfdag is ‘n Better-ball Stableford en die Shotgun-afslaantyd is 11.30vm. Registrasie, wat spelersgelde, die gebruik van ‘n gholfkarretjie en aandete na die prysuitdelingsfunksie insluit, beloop R800 per persoon. ‘n Vierbal kos R3 200 en die bedrag om Putjie 1 tot 13 te borg is R5 000 per putjie. Borggelde by die ander putjies is R3 500 en sluit die borg se uitstalling by die gholfdag en blootstelling in die Northsider in, wat ‘n drukoplaag van meer as 30 000 het. • 25 May: Fire season safety launch in Magaliesburg

The media, the Working on Fire programme, the Mogale City Fire Protection Association, the police, Netcare, Benjiflo, landowners, local businesses, members of the general public and the West District Municipality, among others, are invited to attend the fire season launch to be held at the Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk van Afrika in Magaliesberg. Landowners are encouraged to come out in numbers to this prestigious and important day. One of the objectives of the event is to encourage extensive fire safety tips- and information-sharing among the landowners and the public.

• 6 to 11 October: Paw x 4 Namaqua Coastal Trip and fundraiser for the Randwest SPCA

Randwest Nissan is planning a Paw x 4 Namaqua Coastal Trip with 20 vehicles – and 50 per cent of the proceeds will go to the Randwest SPCA. According to Gerda Pieterse of Randwest Nissan they are inviting all 4 x 4 vehicle owners and all dog lovers and their sociable and disciplined four-legged friends to join this adventure to support our local SPCA.
