It’s #ThrowbackThursday and the Herald went back in time to 24 April 1987 to see what was in the news.
One of the stories that was covered warned local parents about the prevalence of the use of amphetamines, saying that many use the drug to induce a transient sense of well-being. The drug was used in a tablet form and its effects would leave users hyperactive.
For this week’s #ThrowbackThursday, we caught up with Sakkie Ngobeni, a counsellor and halfway-house manager at the Life Esidimeni Recovery Centre who spoke to us about the effects of amphetamines and other drugs, where in South Africa they are prevalent, and whether or not they are still an issue 32 years later.
