Curbing crime ahead of the Easter weekend

Local law enforcement, a security company, even ambulance services held a joint operation to raise crime awareness before Easter.

The Randfontein Police, Community Policing Forum, EPR and Netcare 911 took to the streets on Thursday, 18 April, as part of a crime prevention operation.

The operation started at 6am at the crossings of Lazaar and Homestead Avenues and North Way Road.

“We handed out 1 000 crime and safety awareness pamphlets, each with an Easter egg.

The pamphlet has all the emergency numbers for the area in it so that the community, especially women, know who to call in an emergency,” Henry Boyce, the CPF operations coordinator, said during the operation.

Aiming to increase police visibility, Brigadier Jacob Mashole Manamela conducted a stop-and-search in the Randfontein CBD the same morning. Drugs and dangerous weapons were confiscated.
