Man fatally shot in W’aria home-business invasion

Man shot and killed after he put up a fight against four suspects that entered his home and targeted the business attached to the house in Westonaria.

A man was shot and killed when four armed suspects entered his home, which is attached to a spaza shop situated in the Speruperu informal settlement, Westonaria on Wednesday, 17 April.

The Westonaria Police are investigating a case of murder and business robbery.

According to Sergeant Audrey Sefara, the Westonaria Police spokesperson, the family was asleep in the house.

She said the parents heard a noise coming from a room, followed by their daughter and her one-year-old son running towards them. The suspects then broke the window and the burglar bars on the daughter’s bedroom window, and started firing shots randomly.

“They demanded money and began searching the house and the spaza shop. The daughter’s husband then took a can of Doom and sprayed the suspects in their eyes. They then shot him. Emergency personnel were summoned and declared the victim dead on the scene

“The suspects all fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash, cigarettes, a laptop and a printer.”

Sefara added they are concerned about the attacks on people in residential areas and urged the community of Westonaria and other places to be vigilant and increase their security measures.
