Get ready for Westonaria’s first-ever parkrun

Residents of Westonaria can look forward to their own parkrun course on 16 May.

Residents of Westonaria can look forward to their own parkrun course, thanks to June Beukman.

According to June, she completed her first parkrun in December while visiting her sister in Virginia and fell in love with it.

“When I came home I realised that we didn’t have something like this in the area and I had to go all the way to Fochville to do a parkrun,” she said.

She has never been an active person, but taking part in her first parkrun changed that. She said that it’s a fun experience and that it’s a great way to challenge yourself.

“I found information on how to start our own parkrun and thought that the Westonaria Sports Complex would make the perfect course. The municipality approved my request to start a parkrun here and now my dreams are being realised,” she said.

A whole team of runners is working hard to get the course and paperwork ready. June and Nelson Kumalo will be the event directors, Drieka Fivaz will be the event organiser and Lettie Naudé will be the running director.

The first Westonaria parkrun will take place on 16 May.

“There has been a lot of positive feedback from other residents and I am sure that this parkrun will be the perfect tool to create awareness for a healthy lifestyle,” she said.
