Man shot dead next to bridge

Man shot and killed next to a local bridge – Police say motive unknown at this stage.

A case of murder is being investigated after a man in his late 30s was shot and killed on Kenosi Street next to the Simunye Bridge.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said the incident happened shortly before midnight on Monday, 25 March.

“While inside his home, a man heard what sounded like gunshots. He waited until it became quiet and went to investigate.

He was shocked to find an unknown man lying on his back with his face covered in blood. He contacted the police and reported the matter. The person was later declared dead on scene.”

The victim was wearing light-brown trousers, a blue striped T-shirt and a denim jacket. He was not wearing shoes.

“The motive for the attack is still unknown to the police but investigations are continuing. The deceased is unknown and we are therefore seeking the assistance of the community to solve this case,” Lefakane added.
