#ThrowbackThursday – 13 March 1987

The Herald goes back, way back, to 13 March 1987 for this week’s #ThrowbackThursday.

It’s #ThrowbackThursday and the Herald went back in time to the 13 March 1987 edition in which we published a TV guide to enable our readers to plan ahead.

Phyllis de Reuck, who owned one of the first television sets at the time, said she remembers enjoying many TV shows, such as Murder She Wrote; MacGyver; Thy Kingdom Come; Two-Way Street, etc with her family.

Phyllis remembers the early days of TV in South Africa with much nostalgia, but said modern TV shows leave much to be desired.

“TV is not the same anymore; what we see today is violence and inappropriate things that can be very harmful to children,” she said.

Below are some other interesting news items that made headlines in that 1987 edition:

Korporaal Petrus Botha was die eerste lid van Regiment Paul Kruger wat medies ongeskik vir diens in die weermag verklaar is. Hy het ‘n blyk van waardering van sersant-majoor Gerber ontvang.
