Resident shot to death in Westergloor

A man in his 30s was shot and killed in Westergloor on Tuesday, 5 March.

The murder of a middle-aged man earlier this week has shocked the community of Westergloor.

Constable Carmen Hendricks, Randfontein Police spokesperson, confirmed that the murder took place in Pretorius Street in Westergloor on Tuesday, 5 March at about 8.35pm.

“It was alleged by the complainant that he was at home when he heard shouting and shooting outside his house. He waited a while and when it was quiet he decided to go outside to check what was happening. He then found his neighbour lying on the pavement, still breathing but unable to speak,” Hendricks said.

Hendricks said that the complainant contacted the ambulance services and upon their arrival, the paramedic certified that the man, who was in his 30s, had succumbed to his injuries.

“The motive for the shooting and the identity of the perpetrator are unknown at this stage. Therefore, the Randfontein detective branch is urging anyone in the community who might have information regarding the incident to come forward. They can be contacted on 011 278 8100,” she added.
