More than 100 arrests in West Rand crime crackdown

West Rand Police arrest over 100 suspects for various serious crimes committed during the weekend, including murder, rape, robbery, housebreaking and theft, possession of live ammunition.

West Rand law-enforcement agencies arrested 103 people during various crime-prevention operations between Friday, 22 and Sunday 24 February.

West Rand Police District commander, Major General Fred Kekana said the focus of the operations was to create a safer environment for communities and to ensure that those who commit crime are brought to book.

“The suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from murder, rape, robbery, housebreaking and theft, possession of live ammunition, malicious damage to property, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, domestic violence and theft,” Kekana said.

He said other offences such as driving under the influence, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of dangerous weapons, unlicensed liquor stores and shoplifting were also dealt with.

“All arrested suspects are expected to appear in the respective magistrates’ courts soon,” Kekana said.

Kekana also thanked all members for their contribution and dedication towards service delivery.
