Taxi and two vehicles collide: 11 injured

Collision between taxi and two other vehicles left 11 injured in Westonaria on Tuesday.

Eleven people sustained minor to moderate injuries in a collision between a taxi and two light motor vehicles at the N12 and R28 intersection in Westonaria on Tuesday, 12 February.

Russel Meiring, the ER24 spokesperson, said that shortly after 7am, ER24 paramedics along with other services arrived on the scene only to find the towing services already removing the taxi. One light motor vehicle was found on its roof while the other was a short distance away.

“Paramedics assessed the patients and found that eleven people had sustained minor to moderate injuries. Fortunately, no fatalities were found. The patients were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.”

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.

This was the third serious accident to occur within four days. The Herald reported that six people died and at least 14 others were injured in two separate accidents on the R28 in the Randfontein area on Saturday evening, 9 February.

In the first of the three accidents, five people were killed and at least 12 others were injured when a taxi overturned several times on the R28 near Mohlakeng Extension 11. While police were still on the scene of the first accident, a second fatal crash occurred on the corner of the R28 and Harred Road. According to Constable Carmen Hendricks, the Randfontein Police spokesperson, “It is alleged that a vehicle skipped a stop sign and crashed into another vehicle.”
