Man threatened with knife in street robbery

Man robbed at knife-point in broad daylight after two men approached him in a street in Bekkersdal.

A 35-year-old man was recently robbed at knife-point in broad daylight after two men approached him in the street in the Tambo informal settlement at Bekkersdal.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, said, “It is alleged by the victim that he was walking along the street when he was accosted by two men.

“They allegedly grabbed and searched him, robbing him of an undisclosed amount of money. The victim tried to fight back, but one of the suspects allegedly produced a knife to threaten him. He decided to leave them be, fearing for his life.”

Lefakane added that after the matter was reported, one suspect was traced and arrested at his residence with the assistance of the victim.

“An investigation to track the other suspect is continuing.”

The arrested suspect has already appeared in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on a charge of robbery.
