Fun Run brings Toekies together
The aim of the fun run is to raise funds for the Church of Nazarene and also to motivate the residents of Toekies to be more active.
Sports are meant to bring people together and recently the old and the young took to the streets of Toekomsrus side by side.
The Church of the Nazarene hosted their first annual fun run and walk on Sunday, 16 December at 8.30am.
People competed in the 8km and 4km runs, and the 4km walk. The winner of the 8km run, Eugene Gaanakgomo, completed the race in less than 29 minutes.
“There used to be an annual fun run in Toekomsrus but it ended years ago. We felt that there was a need for an event like this to bring the community together,” Pastor Eunice Sediti, organiser of the fun run, said.
The aim of the fun run is to raise church funds and also to motivate the residents of Toekies to be more active.
Eunice said she hopes that the annual fun run will motivate the participants to take part in more races and to ultimately run the Comrades.
“People of all ages took part in the fun run. Our oldest participant for this year’s fun run was 84 years old and there were two wheelchair-bound participants and a few who are deaf,” Eunice said.
The annual fun run will give locals the chance to enjoy each other’s company while being active.
