Another elderly resident attacked – this time in Helikonpark

Another elderly person, also aged 78, attacked at home in Randfontein.

Local police confirmed that yet another house robbery took place in the Randfontein suburbs. An elderly couple were the victims.

Three men attacked a 78-year-old man in his home on Flamink Street at about 7.45pm on Sunday, 6 January. The incident came less than a week after an elderly woman, also aged 78, was choked and robbed during a home invasion in Greenhills on New Year’s Eve.

According to Constable Carmen Hendricks, Randfontein Police spokesperson, “The victim alleged that he was sitting in the dining room when he heard a loud noise. He went to the kitchen to investigate and was surprised to be approached by three unknown men.

One of them threatened him with an unknown object and instructed him to lie on the floor,” Hendricks said.

The victim’s wife heard the commotion and when she investigated she found the intruders. She pleaded with them not to injure her husband. They removed a gold ring from her finger and also tried to take her wedding ring but failed.

“The robbers ransacked the house and took a television, silver wristwatches, laptops, a WiFi router, cellphones as well as the complainants’ red Mazda 2 with registration number FS95GP. The stolen goods were loaded into the motor vehicle and the robbers drove away in it. No one was injured,” Hendricks said.

The Detectives are urging the community to come forward with any information that might lead to the arrest of the perpetrators by contacting them on 011 278 8100.
