Motorist, passengers shot at after overtaking security vehicle

One of four people inside a vehicle was shot and injured after overtaking a security company vehicle on the R41 in Randfontein.

Two security officers have been arrested for attempted murder after a shot was fired at a vehicle, injuring a female passenger last week.

According to Constable Carmen Hendriks, the incident took place at about 11.15pm on Wednesday, 5 December, on the R41.

“It was alleged by the complainant that he and three passengers were driving in his vehicle from Kagiso towards Randfontein. He overtook a white Nissan NP200 security company bakkie, and noticed after a while in his mirror that the same bakkie was coming towards him at high speed.

“The bakkie came closer and a shot was fired at them. One female passenger was injured and subsequently taken to hospital,” Hendricks said.

Hendricks added the two security officers were arrested and their firearms confiscated. They are to appear in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court soon on charges of attempted murder.
