Woman robbed at gunpoint after cash withdrawal

A woman was robbed at gunpoint at her workplace in Aureus two days ago shortly after having withdrawn cash from an ATM.

A 29-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint at her workplace in Steyer Street, Aureus two days ago, shortly after having withdrawn cash from an ATM.

Constable Carmen Hendricks, Randfontein Police spokesperson confirmed that the incident took place at about 11.45am on Monday, 26 October.

“It was alleged that the complainant just arrived at the gate of her workplace after withdrawing money from an ATM at a mall when she was confronted by an unknown armed man. The man threatened her with a firearm and demanded money from her.

“The perpetrator took the unknown amount of cash which the victim had and fled the scene in a black VW Polo with an unknown registration number. Another vehicle, a blue-silver Lexus with tinted windows and registration number also unknown, followed that vehicle.”

No shots were fired and no one was injured, but the Randfontein Police are requesting the public to be careful when withdrawing money from ATMs and to remember to never give out their PIN numbers or request help from strangers.

The Randfontein detectives are urging community members to come forward with any information regarding this incident, and to contact them on 011 278 8100.
