Vital classes for new parents

Lenmed Randfontein Private Hospital launched will be running antenatal classes every second Saturday of the month from November.

Lenmed Randfontein Private Hospital launched antenatal classes on Wednesday, 24 October in which expectant mothers and their partners were taught various ways of caring for their newborn babies.

Ofentse Pharumele of the hospital said, “The antenatal classes will run every second Saturday of the month from November. These classes will help mothers to gain insight into and get fact-based information on pregnancy and breastfeeding in order to boost awareness. This will help prevent complications”.

She added that during the launch, doctors shared vital information and necessary tips to help soon-to-be mothers navigate pregnancy in the best possible ways.

“There was a range of speakers who addressed baby registration (Home Affairs) to the importance of vaccination for children. Dr Maligavhada, our Paediatric Pulmonologist, covered infant feeding, nutrition, the importance of breastfeeding and how beneficial it is for babies to be breastfed,” Ofentse said.

Ofentse also said other doctors spoke about depression as one of the mental illnesses caused by pregnancy and motherhood.
