R’fontein vehicle owners beware

Theft of motor vehicles as well as theft out of vehicles are on the increase in Randfontein.

Randfontein Police have concerns regarding the increase in the number of cases of motor vehicle theft and theft out of motor vehicles reported in and around Randfontein.

Police therefore urge the public to ensure they take the following precautionary measures:

1. Park your motor vehicle inside your property, not on the pavement or in the street.

2. When parked, always ensure that all windows are closed and the doors are properly locked.

3. Always make sure that your vehicle’s alarm is activated, and double check the vehicle’s doors to make sure that they are in fact locked, since jamming devices are used by criminals to disarm alarm systems.

According to Constable Carmen Hendricks, Randfontein Police spokesperson, “We also appeal to the public to please make sure that they do not leave valuables on the seats of the vehicle, which might catch the eye of perpetrators. Even an empty handbag can cause the breaking of the vehicle window and the theft of items out of the vehicle.”

“The community is also urged to report those who buy and store stolen property. It is a criminal offence to buy stolen goods,” warned Colonel Rand Makgatho, acting Randfontein Police station commander.
