Teen raped: Suspect wanted

Wanted: Police ID person of interest in teen's rape in Bekkersdal.

The Carletonville Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit has released an identity kit of a suspect after a 18-year-old was raped in the Mandela section of Bekkersdal in August.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, said it was alleged the victim was walking along Khomoeahlaba Street on her way home when she came across two men.

“They offered to accompany her and when she refused, they threatened to assault her. They dragged her to a shack in the Mandela section. During the rape, one of the men waited outside, while the other raped the victim.”

Lefakane added that the matter was immediately reported to the police.

“The victim was able to identify her rapist by means of an ID kit. He is in his 20s, coffee-coloured, slim built and short. He was wearing an orange hoodie and spoke Sesotho. The other accomplice has not been identified yet,” Lefakane said.
