On a budget this New Year’s Eve? How to throw a bash without breaking the bank

Hosting an unforgettable New Year’s Eve party on a budget isn’t impossible but it’s going to take some creativity and cooperation from your guests.

It’s no secret that most people love to go into the new year with a very festive spirit, but it’s hard going out or hosting a huge party when you are on a budget.

During this season, it’s important to spend time with friends and family and to celebrate the new year with your loved ones, so why not throw a big bash at home?

Throwing a New Year’s Eve party at home can already save you some money, but here are five tips to help you host an unforgettable party even if you are on a tight budget:

1. Get funky with a theme

Themed parties can be fun and cost-effective. Tell your friends and family to dress up according to the theme as this will save them time and money. Let your guests dress up in pyjamas or in their old school uniforms or something they already own and get ready for a night filled with laughter and fun.

2. Less is more when it comes to decorations

Were you planning on buying festive party decorations again? Rather re-use party decorations from previous parties. Using fairy lights is a great way to create a cosy and festive atmosphere on a budget. It’s hard not to go all out on a New Year’s Eve party, but tone it down a bit and only use enough decorations to set the scene, because you don’t want to spend the 1st of January cleaning your home.

3. Don’t start too early

If you host your party a bit later in the evening it won’t be necessary to feed the guests. Give them enough time before the party starts to go out for a bite or to make dinner at home. All that’s left for you to do is to put out some snacks and appetizers to keep them partying into the new year.

4. What’s going on in town?

It can be expensive to go out on New Year’s Eve, but if you are looking to add a bit more adventure to your party, pile into the car, drive around town and check to see if there are any free or cheap events going on. It can also be the perfect opportunity to get to know your neighbours by hosting a New Years Eve block party.

5. BYOB

Drinks are the most expensive part of a New Year’s Eve party, especially if you want to go into the new year with some bubbles. Ask your guests to rather Bring Your Own Bottle (BYOB). It would be a nice gesture to offer cold drinks and juice at the party so that guests can bring the booze of their choice.

Hosting a rocking New Year’s Eve party on a budget isn’t impossible, but it’s going to take some creativity and cooperation from your guests.
