Police arrest over 20 people in one day

Over 20 arrested in Bekkersdal area as Police crack down on crime last Friday.

A total of 23 suspects ranging in age from 25 to 45 were arrested during a joint crime prevention operation held in the Bekkersdal area last week.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, confirmed the suspects were arrested for various crimes including housebreaking and theft, malicious damage to property, dealing in drugs and undocumented persons. The operation was held between 8am and 3pm on Friday, 5 October.

“Among the arrested persons was a woman who was arrested for non-compliance with the Liquor Act. More than 66 litres of liquor was seized from her outlet. The main focus was on all illegal activities around the area,” she said.

Colonel Tinus Swart, Bekkersdal Police station commander, commended the members from all the stations in the West Rand Cluster on a job well done and thanked them for the positive results they achieved.

“I am very happy about the results and wish we had more time,” he added.
