NPO helps family with their identity
A NPO has helped a Simunye family with their IDs and social grants after several failed attempts.
The Sebueng Itumeleng Drop-In-Centre, a non-profit organisation has helped a local family obtain their essential IDs and social grants after several failed attempts.
The organisation said it visited the family and discovered that they were left destitute and had nowhere to go for help. Members of the organisation provided them with some clothes and food as well.
During the visit, we met a father, his nine children and three grandchildren, none of whom had their documents in order,” said Sebueng Segopolo, the Drop-In-Centre founder.
She added it was unfortunate that the father had to fend for the entire family since he had lost his wife in February 2016.
“The mother died and the only documents they had were the clinic cards and death certificate of the mother,” Sebueng said.
She added that after many unsuccessful attempts by the family to apply for their IDs, they were on the verge of giving up.
“They even asked for assistance from other stakeholders, but even those applications were not successful.”
However, Sebueng said, after the organisation had committed itself to helping the family, they managed to get the required IDs and birth certificates. They even helped them to get their monthly Sassa grants applications approved.
