Theft out of and from vehicles on the rise

If you have a motor vehicle, you might want to consider extra precautions as thefts out of and from motor vehicles are on the rise in Bekkersdal.

The police in Bekkersdal have noted with concern an increase in the number of thefts out of and from motor vehicles in and around Bekkersdal.

Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson confirmed that these thefts are on the rise.

The victims, who do not have garages, park their vehicles in their fully fenced yards but the following morning when they wake up they find their vehicles without tyres standing on bricks,” she said.

In most cases all four tyres, the battery and radio were missing.

“We suspect that there is a market for these stolen goods around Bekkersdal and the investigation into this matter is continuing. We are appealing to the public to ensure that their yards are secure. People should also consider installing some form of security in their vehicles,” she added.

The community is also urged to report those who buy and store stolen property. Information can be reported anonymously to 0860010111 or the SMS hotline on 32211.
