Bicycles for a crime-free R’fontein
More bicycles were handed over to the CPF members in Randfontein to help fight crime.
Qhubeka Charity in partnership with Gold Fields handed over 100 bicycles to the Randfontein Community Policing Forum (CPF) on Saturday, 29 September.
The initiative is aimed at combating crime by creating better visibility and mobility for the patrollers.
During the official handover Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela, Randfontein Police station commander showed his appreciation towards the initiative and said the partnership between the police and community is vital.
“We are very appreciative of the commitment shown to help us achieve the goal of minimising crime in the area. The bicycles will help make our CPF more visible and assist them in the fight against crime,” Mamamela said.
Benford Moakoatle, vice-president of South Deep added that the initiative is aimed at having a crime-free area. “It goes without saying that with lesser crime comes improved living conditions, and improvement in small business, job sectors and job markets.
“It is very important that we change the image of our country from that perspective. By empowering the patrollers with small things, we are giving them resources to help bring down crime.
“We are happy that we have been able to extend this project to Randfontein. By handing over these bicycles we aim to support the work done by the CPF; however, equally important, we want to further the relationship between the mine and our host communities,” Bendford said.
In June, the CPFs of Westonaria and Bekkersdal received a total of 200 bicycles and 75 jackets as part of the same initiative.
