Six arrested in major Aureus business robbery bust

Randfontein Police make major breakthrough with recovery of stolen goods and the arrest of six men following Aureus business robbery. .

Six men aged between 22 and 58 were arrested in connection with a business robbery in Aureus on Wednesday, 26 September.

The robbed goods, stolen cellphones and even the truck used in the crime were also recovered.

Constable Carmen Hendricks, Randfontein Police spokesperson said, “At about 2am that day, seven men entered a business premises in Aureus by cutting the electric fence and climbing over the wall. It is alleged five of them were armed with firearms and two of them with knives. They were wearing balaclavas. The suspects then tied up all the workers that were on the premises and took their cellphones.

“The suspects forced the gate of the storeroom open. A truck then entered the yard and loaded copper, brass and gas bottles. The make and registration number of the truck was unknown. The suspects then fled the scene in the truck. Slight injuries were sustained by the victims due to being tied up, but no shots were fired.

“Later the same morning, information received led to a house in Swanieville, Kagiso where the truck that was used in the crime was recovered. Further investigations led to a premises in Roodepoort where most of the stolen goods were found. The owner alleged that he had bought the goods from the suspects. Property recovered included generators, toolboxes, copper and brass. The cellphones of the victims were also recovered.

Brigadier Mashole Manamela, the Randfontein Police station commander, expressed his gratitude towards the members involved in the success.

“I wish to applaud Sergeant Petlele from the Trio Task Team and the members from the Randfontein Detective Branch, Warrant Officer Thabiso Duiker, and Sergeants Tyobeka and Cele. This breakthrough was made possible by cooperation between the public and the police. Congratulations.”
