UPDATE: Man murders ex-girlfriend, police confirm

Police confirmed woman was attacked and killed by former lover in Mohlakeng.

Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela, Randfontein Police station commander again appealed to couples to refrain from violence against one another.

“Violence is not the answer to relationship issues. It is sad that a life has again been lost due to domestic violence,” he said.

He made the appeal after a 35-year-old woman died from the injuries she sustained after allegedly being attacked by her ex-boyfriend in an open veld along Darius Mhlongo Street in Mohlakeng on Monday, 17 September.

Constable Carmen Hendricks, Randfontein Police spokesperson said, “It is alleged that witnesses heard a woman crying for help and found her badly injured in the veld. They were able to establish her name, and called a family member and the ambulance. The woman indicated to them that she was attacked by her former boyfriend. She was transported to a local hospital but was declared dead shortly after her arrival.

“The 50-year-old ex-boyfriend was arrested shortly after the woman had died and is currently under police guard in hospital, suffering from alleged self-inflicted injuries.

“Warrant Officer Thabiso Duiker, the investigating officer expressed his appreciation towards all witnesses who already assisted in the investigation. He would appreciate any other information regarding the incident.”

On Wednesday morning 26 September, scores of people were expressing their anger outside the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court where a man, allegedly accused of killing his girlfriend, was expected to appear.
