#ThrowbackThursday – 19 September 1986

The Herald goes back, way back, to 19 September 1986 for this week’s #ThrowbackThursday.

It’s Throwback Thursday, so the Herald went back in time to 19 September 1986. The highlight story on the front page had the headline Eurekas behaal vol punte.

These days Raca and other competitions are on everybody’s lips but it seems that even back in 1986 Randfonteiners excelled at cultural activities. The Herald’s front-page story was about the Eureka Serenade-group from Laerskool Randfontein (Ram) that received 100 per cent for their performance during the Randfontein National Arts Games.

At the time a group from the Connie Mulder Centre also took part and they received 95 per cent for their performance.

Another highlight was when a local woman, Isabella de Re, had the opportunity to experience a WP Cellars money machine. “It’s raining money,” she screamed as she entered the box.
