Lieutenant Colonel Florence Nkosi, acting station commander of the Bekkersdal Police said, “It is alleged the victim was walking next to Mafutha Circle when she was suddenly accosted by three men, one of whom was armed with a firearm.
“The victim further alleged that the suspect with the firearm grabbed her by the throat and ordered her to ‘cooperate’ if she wanted to live. The men then dragged her to the bridge where they took turns to rape her,” Nkosi said.
Nkosi urged the public, particularly women to avoid walking alone after dark as they easily fall victim to criminals.
“Rather walk in groups if you really have to,” Nkosi added.
