The GDE released a statement extending the period for public comment on the admissions draft amendment regulations to 14 September 2018.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is pleased to announce that deadline for public comment on the draft amendment bill on regulations for public school admissions has been extended to midnight,14 September 2018.

The GDE said in its latest media statement, “Parents who did not have an opportunity to submit their comment can now do so within the next two weeks. As with other stakeholders, parents from all walks of life are key stakeholders from whom the department is eager to hear, concerning the following aspects of the admissions draft amendment bill: Criteria for the determination of feeder zones; online applications for Grades 1 and 8, and approval of school admission policy.”

The Department appeals to parents and communities to submit their comments as soon as possible.

To download the presentation on the draft amendments, parents are urged to visit the GDE’s website at www.gauteng.gov.za. Go to the Gauteng Education Home Page, under Announcements, for an attainable presentation titled ‘Advocacy on the Admissions Regulations August 2018 V3 Final’.

The closing date for written comments is Friday, 14 September 2018.

People can also make submissions by hand, to the Gauteng Department of Education, Directorate: Strategic Policy Management, 7th floor – Room 7D12, 17 Simmonds Street, Johannesburg, or send them by email to Faizel.Peerbhai@gauteng.gov.za.

Throughout the month of August, the Department said it undertook a series of public meetings in high pressure areas, where school-based communities attended and submitted their comments on the draft amendment bill.

The meetings were part of the consultative processes for the following objectives: To share the principle informing the draft amendments; to solicit input from the public and to mobilise the public to participate in the process.

“We urge parents to participate in this process, as it is of utmost importance to receive public input. We implore all parents to heed our call and submit their input by 14 September 2018. We would like to take this time to thank all parents who attended the meetings and who have thus far made their submissions,” GDE said.
