Two escape death as vehicle catches fire after crash

Three people were injured – two of them narrowly escaping death – when two vehicles collided at Fochville-Carletonville crossing.

Three people were injured in a collision involving two vehicles on the N12 near the Fochville-Carletonville crossing during this past weekend.

Werner Vermaak, the ER24 spokesperson, said that paramedics arrived on the scene just after 2pm on Friday, 17 August.

“A severely damaged Opel was found on the scene and another vehicle was found a few metres away next to the road, completely burnt out,” Vermaak said.

“He was extricated from the vehicle and rushed off to a nearby hospital for further care,” Vermaak added.

“Both occupants of the other car were found outside the vehicle when paramedics arrived on the scene. One of them declined to be transported to a hospital, while the other was treated by the paramedics and was later transported to a hospital,” he said.

According to Vermaak, the exact circumstances surrounding the collision are still unknown. Local authorities attended the scene and will investigate.
