Police launch manhunt for house robbers

Two suspects armed with a pickaxe-like object invaded a house in Randfontein and tied the victims' hands with shoelaces.

Bekkersdal Police have launched a manhunt for two suspects in connection with a house robbery in the Zuurbekom area.

The incident took place at about 8.30pm on Saturday, 28 July.

Police said it is alleged the two suspects, armed with a pickaxe-like object, invaded a house and tied the victims’ hands with shoelaces.

“They took two plasma TVs, DVD players, smartphones, wrist watches and a bag containing personal documents. A case was later reported to the police and the suspects are still at large,” said Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson.

Lefakane urged the community to assist with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects.

“We are also appealing to the public to refrain from buying electrical appliances, cellphones or any other small item on the street as it may have been stolen,” Lefakane said.
