Man gets 10 years for Randridge rape

Man, 23, sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment for a rape that took place in Randridge, Randfontein during September last year.

Thabiso Mphosi, 23, has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for a rape that took place in Randridge, Randfontein on 22 September 2017.

The matter was heard in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court recently.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, the Randfontein Police spokesperson, “It was alleged that the accused attacked a 22-year-old victim while she was walking home. Mphosi, the accused, was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment and also declared unfit to possess a firearm,” Ernst said.

Constable Letlhogonolo Ramokgadi, of the Family Violence, Child Abuse, and Sexual Assault Unit in Krugersdorp, was the investigating officer on the case. “She was applauded for the thorough investigation into the matter,” Ernst added.

Lieutenant Colonel Kathy Segotta, Krugersdorp FCS commander, said, “The members and our counterparts at the NPA and Justice Department are congratulated on the successful conclusion of this case.”
