Weekend crashes leave five injured and one dead

Two separate crashes in Carletonville this past weekend left five people injured and one dead.

One person died and five others left injured in two separate accidents in the Carletonville area during the weekend.

In the first accident, a woman was killed and two others injured following a rear-end collision between two light motor vehicles on Bank Road in Carletonville late at night on Saturday, 21 July.

Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson said, “ER24 paramedics, along with the Provincial Services, arrived on the scene shortly before 11pm to find one vehicle on the side of the road in the veld while the second vehicle had come to a stop in the road.”

He said upon closer inspection, paramedics found a man and woman in one vehicle while a second man was found in the second vehicle.

“Paramedics extricated the patients from the vehicles and assessed them, finding that one man and the woman were in a critical condition while the second man had sustained only moderate injuries. The patients were treated for their injuries, and the critically injured provided with advanced life support interventions before they were transported to nearby hospitals for further care.

“Unfortunately, upon arrival at hospital, the critically injured woman succumbed to her injuries and was declared dead.”

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.

In the second accident, which took place on the morning of Sunday, 22 July, three people were left injured following an incident in which a bakkie rolled on the R501 in Carletonville.

Meiring said, “ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene before 11am only to find a bakkie on the side of the road. The occupants had already climbed out of the vehicle and were walking around on the scene.

“Paramedics assessed the patients and found that two men and a woman had sustained minor to moderate injuries. Fortunately, there were no fatalities. The patients were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

“It is understood that another vehicle had collided with the bakkie, causing it to roll. The second vehicle was not found on the scene.”

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
