Man robbed of R1 000 cash and his Lesotho passport by three men – one was arrested, two others still at large.

A man was robbed of R1 000 cash and his Lesotho passport, Bekkersdal Police said.

A 27-year-old man has since been arrested and has already appeared before the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on charges of robbery.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident which happened on 14 July.

“The victim alleges that he was walking home when he was approached by three men. One man was allegedly armed with a firearm. The man with the firearm threatened him while the two others searched him and later fled on foot,” she said.

The matter was reported to the police and through information received one suspect was apprehended.

“The police will not rest until the other two suspects are also placed before the Magistrates’ Court to answer for the part they played in the matter,” Lefakane said.

Colonel Tinus Swart, the Bekkersdal Police station commander, commended the members for their swift reaction and thanked the community for the information.

“The suspect would still be roaming around the streets if it was not for your information. Let us work together and reduce crime around our communities,” he said.
