Man woken up by noise shot and killed

A man died after he was shot while investigating a noise outside his home.

A 34-year-old man died after he was shot while investigating a noise outside his house in Zuurbekom.

Bekkersdal Police have since launched a manhunt for an unknown number of suspects and are investigating a case of murder.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said the incident took place in the early hours of Friday, 6 July.

“The victim was sleeping when he was awoken by a noise. He went outside and was surprised to see the cattle kraal open. When he went to investigate he was accosted by an unknown man who fired a shot at him and wounded him. He was transported to hospital where he later died.

“The suspect is still at large and the motive for the shooting is unknown. We are appealing to the public to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of these perpetrators.”
