WATCH: #ThrowbackThursday – February 1985

The Herald goes back, way back, to February 1985 for this week's #ThrowbackThursday.

It’s Throwback Thursday and the Herald went back in time, to February 1985, to see what was in the news.

As we have seen this week, the fuel price rose to over R16 per litre, but people back then were also unhappy about prices going up, even though they were comparatively very cheap.

Look at the prices people were complaining about, back then:

• Queues of motorists line the streets of Randfontein to fill up at the “old price”
• Gloves were as cheap as 44 cents

Entertainment during that period.

• New Opel Kadet 1,3 for only R7 095
• Microwave Oven Demonstrations

How our eyes work feature.

• How our eyes work
• Coca Cola 1 litre 69 cents
• Milk Price goes sour, after 2 cents increase
• Valentines’ theme
