#FanFriday – Who R’fontein is rooting for

The Herald went out to meet soccer fans in Randfontein, to find out who they are backing.

Now that Africa is no longer represented in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, soccer fans have no choice but to root for other teams.

The Herald went out to meet soccer fans in Randfontein, to find out who they are backing.

“I am going with Brazil, I thought about how the team is managed and how it is structured, and then I realised that they stand a better chance than everyone else,” said Ruan Brown of Elandsvlei.

As for Phineas Ndoga of Greenhills, his hopes are now with Portugal.

“Even though as Africans we are not happy with how Senegal was treated in the match against Columbia, I think Portugal will do well. I am now a fan of this team. But even if Brazil takes the cup, it would be great, they have the potential.”

Edward Nyirenda, who said he is now rooting for France, said it is wrong for people to blame the players. He said the problem is that African leaders do not take soccer seriously.

Phineas Ndoga is now a fan of Portugal.

“It is very important that we have better representation next time, even though I say I’m rooting for France. It cannot be that no African country ever makes it to the finals.”
