Water waste in Aureus since 9 June!

It has almost been three weeks since water has started leaking from a manhole in Aureus.

It’s been three weeks since water has started leaking from a manhole on Protea Street in Aureus.

Retha Huyser, a rental agent in the area said the problem started after the fire brigade had dispensed water from the pipe.

“The water has been leaking since 9 June. I only became aware of it on 13 June,” she said.

She said she immediately took pictures and reported the matter to the manager of the Infrastructure Department in the municipality.

“He said to me the issue had been noted. A week later tenants phoned me again, saying the water was still running.

“I phoned the manager again, and he told me that the issue was on their to-do list.”

Huyser said after a few days, the councillor phoned the municipality but all response they were getting was that the municipality was waiting for a part from Westonaria.

Huyser said there has not been any form of response from the municipality since.

“Tomorrow it will be three weeks. This is clear water, not sewage, going to waste,” she added.
