Three people live to tell of 25km hijacking ordeal.

Three people fell prey to a horrific hijacking recently when three armed suspects drove off with them to Soweto.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said the incident happened at about 8pm on Friday, 25 May in Simunye.

“It is alleged the victims were accosted by three armed men. They were threatened with the firearms, searched, and robbed of their cellphones, wallets and car keys.

“The suspects then dragged the victims to the vehicle that was parked along the street, bundled them in and took off. They later dropped the victims at a secluded place near Soweto. The victims managed to make their way to the police and reported the matter.

“The vehicle tracker was activated and with the assistance of the sector vehicle, the vehicle was located at Protea Glen. One suspect, a 37-year-old man, has already made a brief appearance in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court for being in possession of a hijacked vehicle. He is expected to be back in court after seven days for his bail application.”

Colonel Tinus Swart, the Bekkersdal Police station commander commended the members for their swift reaction and for ensuring that a suspect was brought to book.
