Man gets three years for fraud

A Kagiso resident was sentenced to three years in prison for fraud. The sentence was handed down in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson confirmed that 27-year-old Tshepiso Luthuli will spend three years in prison.

“The accused was allegedly arrested for another case but was then linked to the fraud case. The incident happened at about 10.05pm on 6 February at a Caltex garage in Waterpan.

“It is alleged the accused used a fraudulent card to purchase petrol at the garage. It was discovered at a later stage that the same card had been used at other garages and that the matter had already been reported to the police. On 19 April 2018, the accused was arrested for being in possession of a stolen vehicle and was later charged with fraud.

“Through investigations by detective Sergeant Shiwe Mkone, the accused was found guilty and sentenced.”

Captain Boitumelo Sigwili, the acting branch commander applauded the member for a job well done and thanked the prosecution team for the sentence.

“This is a breakthrough, given the number of unsolved fraud cases within our jurisdiction,” she concluded.
