New West Rand Gospel Choir on the scene

Excitement is in the air following the announcement of the West Rand Gospel Choir.

There is a new choir in town – the West Rand Gospel Choir.

Excitement is in the air following the announcement of the West Rand Gospel Choir, a newly formed group of unemployed musicians and soloists that hail from all over the West Rand Region (Westonaria, Randfontein, Carletonville and Krugersdorp).

According to a statement released by the West Rand District Municipality (WRDM), the idea came from Rand West City’s first lady, Ntsiki Khumalo, wife of the mayor Mzi.

It’s said that Ntsiki, an already established gospel singer, has a passion for people that pushed her on to find talented youth and combine their potential into the West Rand Gospel Choir.

The West Rand Gospel Choir has 23 soloists and musicians that have rehearsed for months to prepare for the official launch event of the choir at Vredenvlucht Estate located on Louis Road, in Loumarina, Randfontein on Friday, 4 May.

The purpose of the event is to launch the West Rand Gospel Choir (WRGC) and to raise awareness among the communities in the West Rand region of the existence of WRGC. The launch event is also a fundraiser for the choir’s live audio and DVD recordings.

“Once the DVD and CD are released the status of the choir members, who are currently unemployed youth, will be transformed to that of people with hope,” Ntsiki said.

Bafana Nkosi from Redeemed – a popular gospel band – who has also worked with the likes of Solly Mahlangu as backup vocalist, is the choir director and producer.

Nombulelo Tshefu from Alex FM, and a Top 10 finalist in the I think I can Sing Gospel show, will host the launch with Stephen Molakeng – also a former Redeemed vocalist and former host of Gospel Gold on SABC 1. Pastor Johan van der Merwe is also in the line-up.
